My throat is seized up after I ate steak ...

Since I couldn't find everything in one place (or at all) I have decided to share information and potential treatments for my condition. I cannot consume anti-caking agents such as Tri-Calcium Phosphate (synthetic MSG/anti caking) or Angus Beef MSG (a naturally occurring MSG / food protectant)



First, I want to make sure you understand that I am not a doctor. However, my experience is that most doctors do NOT take this seriously or have never experienced it so they may misdiagnose or mistreat the occurrence of DISPHAGIA (also spelled DYSPHAGIA) or difficulty swallowing due to swelling/inflammation of the esophagus.

I have been thoroughly tested for this phenomenon as it relates to Tri Calcium Phosphate as it pertains to MY issue.

To describe it as an allergic reaction maybe inaccurate. It may actually be termed as a non-immunological food reaction. It could also be termed as Phlarangial Edema - although typically I can breath after I have a flare up.

In 2009, I was tested with drops of the following Monosodium Glutamate samples:

Red Fish (2 types)
White Fish (2 types)
Shell Fish
Mollusks
Vegetable (8 types)
Pork (2 types)
Beef (2 types)
Lamb
Goat
Chicken / Bird (4 types)
Venison

For me, 1 type of the naturally occurring substance found in Angus beef triggered my issue violently. My throat did not act favorably to Venison.

Some ways to treat the issues of nausea, vomiting, hiccupping, dehydration, inability to swallow (even your own saliva/ spit) ....

• Place a wet wash cloth in your mouth and gently "suck" the water from it

• Use Phenergan suppositories (maximum dosage is 25mg every 7-8 hours)
  Do not use on children under 5 (notes say 2 but this would be too serious of a condition for someone under 18, I believe) 

• place Vicks / Mentholatum under nose and on throat

• try to eat ice chips

• try to sip gently on a non dyed energy drink.

• sip gently on Claussen brand pickle juice

• sip gently on pickled beet juice

• sip gently on benedryl or it's generic equivalent (I like to use kids strength)

•I have a spit cup beside me to spit in ( I put lavender oil or lavender soap shavings in the bottom to keep the smell down / calm / soothe)

• I have found Pepcid to the most affective antacid.

Second Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. I do not even to pretend to be giving sound advice here. This is what I've done and works for me. 

I hate that I've had this more than once in my life. As of (while I type) this is my 6th time having this throat issue. 3 times required ER trips.
